Do a 2-3 minute interview to discover who/what the person needs to forgive and a little information about how it has affected their lives.
- LEADER: Lead the person who is doing the forgiving in this prayer:
“Thank you, Jesus, for forgiving me of everything I’ve ever done. Because You’ve forgiven me, I forgive (person being forgiven).
- LEADER: Lead them through 10 things to forgive, as you imagine being in their place. Holy Spirit will kick in as you do this and help lead you. They will repeat after you as you lead in first person (Example: “I forgive you for opening the door to a spirit of fear.”) After going through the 10 things, invite those in your group to share the things they wrote down to lead the person in forgiving.
- OBSERVERS: Write down 2-3 things the Lord gives you for the person forgiving. You will lead them through these things when the leader asks you to.
- LEADER: Lead them through anything else that the Holy Spirit gives you.
- OBSERVERS: Lead through anything else the Lord has given you.
- LEADER: When you feel you’ve covered what Holy Spirit wants for this time, have the person, in their own words, pray for and bless the person they’ve just forgiven.
- LEADER: Bless and seal this act of forgiveness in their spirits in the name of Jesus.
*Note: For more understanding, study the Forgiveness Tool in the NHM Tool Booklet - but use this 7-step when leading a person through forgiveness, as it’s more conducive to hearing and leading with Holy Spirit.
*As it comes up, the person being led through forgiveness can share what they need to forgive.
